How To Create Momentum For Change In Your Church

Last week I saw a leader with his team at the Exponential Creating a Movement Culture Workshop in Melbourne.

There were three things that I saw that were very impressive.

The first was that there were eleven in the team Caleb Nicholes, Senior Pastor of Discover Church (VIC) brought to the workshops. Seeing the way that they interacted with each other was was impressive.

Whilst Alan Hirsch brought great content stimulating thought leadership, Rich Robinson – also providing great additional content –  facilitated significant workshop time for the participants to work through the practical application and implementation of the concepts.

Having a team at the event meant that the team were able to make progress together rather than have a leader go back to the team and then try to get them to process what the leader had learnt.

The second observation was around how Caleb then provided leadership to his team in the the workshops. He worked his team so that they were able to work through concepts and their application together. Going together to the event was more than just attending an event that stimulated thinking. It went a long way to getting the team on the same page to work out what and how they wanted implement.

Thirdly, I know that for this team the workshop wasn’t about just providing new ideas. Caleb and his team had been sensing changes that they believed God was leading them into. The workshop provided frameworks and thinking for them to be able to move forward into new territory.

Here’s what Caleb had to say about the event:

The Exponential Movement Culture training was a game-changer for me as a Senior Pastor and for our core leadership team. The experience was truly world-class. We were skillfully led through a process that helped us identify the institutional paradigms hindering our Gospel impact in the local community.
The strategic insights provided were both practical and visionary—equipping our team to take concrete steps toward becoming a more movemental, organic expression of the church, all while remaining faithful to our God-given vision and local context.

The National Conference is all about helping leaders and their teams grasp hold of what it means to experience the “Greater Things” that Jesus spoke about in John 14:12.

In addition to the keynote sessions featuring an outstanding range of key speakers, there will be over 40 workshops being conducted across the following 10 streams:
